A Long Time

"A Long Time" is a first person encounter with built history and deep time that reflects on human efforts to site the future through memorials. Opening with a sequence of flowing water imagery descending down into the earth, embodying the flow of time and foreshadowing anxieties over water scarcity and conflict. The camera enters the Parisian catacombs en-route to the hidden memorial for Philibert Aspairt. Built by the French state to embody a man who didn’t really exist, this site is a testament to the upheavals of the French Revolution and is a destination for the lost today. "A Long Time" is a manic, hallucinatory journey through time to present the sensual power of legend as an ancient mode of response to social upheaval and catastrophic loss.
